Springer and Hebrew University to collaborate on mathematics journals

Springer and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, have signed an agreement to distribute and sell the Israel Journal of Mathematics and the Journal d'Analyse Mathématique. The first issues under the new partnership will be published in 2007. International in scope, both journals publish contributions from mathematicians working all over the world.

Springer will manage all subscription and consortia sales, as well as electronic production and distribution of the two journals. The Hebrew University Magnes Press will continue to manage editorial, production print services and distribution to Israeli customers.

The Israel Journal of Mathematics (a continuation of the Bulletin of the Research Council of Israel - Section F) first appeared in 1963. Publishing 2,280 pages each year, it contains high-quality research papers on set theory, model theory, algebra, group theory, number theory, analysis, functional analysis, ergodic theory, geometry, algebraic topology, combinatorics, theoretical computer science and applied mathematics. The interdisciplinary editorial board reflects the wide spectrum of mathematical fields covered.

Journal d'Analyse Mathématique, founded in 1951 by Professor Binyamin Amirà, publishes 1,200 pages of top-level articles per year in classical analysis and related areas, including complex function theory, ergodic theory, harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, and quasiconformal mappings.

Professor Alex Lubotzky of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, head of the General Editorial Board of the Mathematics Journals, said, "We welcome this collaboration with Springer. Israel in general, and The Hebrew University in particular, have a long history of excellence in mathematical research, making the journals first-class international publications." Ehud de Shalit, Chairman of the Einstein Institute of The Hebrew University, added, "Cooperation with Springer will further strengthen the journals' development and will give us new technological and distribution horizons."
