Scientists identified 7-dehydrocholesterol as an endogenous suppressor of ferroptosis, a regulated form of cell death. Accumulation of 7-DHC slowed ferroptosis by forming less toxic peroxides. The findings suggest potential therapeutic strategies targeting this metabolic adaptation for cancer treatment.
