Researchers at Oregon State University found that newly planted coastal switchgrass on sand dunes can accelerate erosion from extreme waves. The study suggests that vegetation initially creates a physical barrier but also increases water penetration into the sediment bed, leading to destabilization and accelerated scarp formation.
