A genetic biomarker called loss of heterozygosity (LOH) predicts which patients with premalignant mouth lesions are at highest risk of developing oral cancer. The study found that LOH-positive patients had a lower three-year cancer-free survival rate, but no benefit from erlotinib treatment.
