The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) Rhoads Research Foundation today announced that it is awarding nearly $130,000 to support promising clinical nutrition and metabolism research.

In 1994, A.S.P.E.N. recognized the need to fund exceptional scientific research projects submitted by early-career investigators of nutrition therapy, metabolic support, and related clinical nutrition topics, and the A.S.P.E.N. Rhoads Research Foundation was formed. Since that time, the Foundation has provided over $1.3 Million to emerging researchers.

For 2015, the A.S.P.E.N. Rhoads Research Foundation is awarding grants to the following seven investigators:

Ashley Hayden, MS, RD, LD, CNSC: Children's Mercy Hospital - Kansas City, Mo.
Grant: C. Richard Fleming Grant
Project Title: Enteral Feeding Set Handling Techniques: A Comparison of Bacterial Growth, Time, Labor and Material Costs

"Quality research is one of the most important means of improving health care. The investigators receiving our grants are doing research that we believe will greatly advance the nutritional care of patients," said Charles Van Way, MD, FASPEN, Professor of Surgery, Sosland/Missouri Endowed Chair of Trauma Research, Director UMKC Shock Trauma Research Center, University of Missouri-Kansas City and President of the A.S.P.E.N. Rhoads Research Foundation.
