This week The Lancet has teamed up with the organisation (PRODUCT) RED to produce a (RED) issue devoted to HIV/AIDS. (PRODUCT) RED, launched at this year's World Economic Forum, hopes to convince companies to develop a (RED) item and donate a percentage of the profits from its sale to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The organisation has already made $10 million in its first 4 months from the sale of (RED) products. The Lancet will contribute $30 000 to (PRODUCT) RED in support of this important project.

EMBARGO: 00:01H (London time) Friday August 4, 2006. In North America the embargo lifts at 18:30H ET Thursday August 3, 2006.

This issue also coincides with the International Aids Society meeting that will be held in Toronto, Aug 13–18; some of the papers in this issue will be presented at the conference.
