Dr. John Ruffin, Associate Director of Research on Minority Health at the National Institutes of Health, will speak on "Biomedical Workforce Needs in the New Millenium" on Monday, August 23, at the 218th national meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans.

Dr. Ruffin will be the guest of the Minority Affairs Committee of the ACS, the world's largest scientific society. Dr. Ruffin was appointed to his present post in 1990 and he is the first to hold the newly created position. He has more than 25 years of experience in developing and administering innovative programs designed to train the next generation of minority scientists and to improve the health of minority populations. In his current position, his role has been to plan and bring to fruition the largest program in the country promoting minority biomedical training and health research.

A New Orleans native, Dr. Ruffin holds undergraduate degrees from Dillard and Atlanta Universities and his doctorate is from Kansas State University.
