According to a study, Earth system model simulations suggest that tropical volcanic eruptions can alter global patterns of tropical cyclone likelihood and intensity as a result of unequal cooling of the Northern and Southern hemispheres that shifts the intertropical convergence zone, and that these effects can last for 4 years following large eruptions, potentially improving prediction of tropical cyclone activity after volcanic eruptions.
