Boulder, CO, USA - This new Special Paper, co-published by The Geological Society of America with the Royal Society of Edinburgh, documents the proceedings of the Sixth Hutton Symposium on the Origin of Granites and Related Rocks, held in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Opening with an historical account of how Cape granites influenced scientific thinking in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries regarding the origins of these rocks, the volume's ensuing chapters cover the current evolution of granite research.

Senior volume editor John D. Clemens of the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, says that the book's 16 chapters "represent the present thrust of granite-related research," noting that "there is a great degree of variety here, and something for nearly every taste." Chapters are well-illustrated and include multiple data tables.

Individual copies of the volume may be purchased through the Geological Society of America online bookstore, http://rock.geosociety.org/Bookstore/default.asp?oID=0&catID=9&pID=SPE472 , or by contacting GSA Sales and Service, gsaservice@geosociety.org .
