Researchers analyzed 45,019 observations of 863 adults from 8 small-scale societies, combined with data from 14 industrialized countries, and found that, on average, men engaged in commercial labor worked approximately 55 hours per week whereas men engaged in noncommercial labor worked approximately 45 hours per week; women at all levels of commercialization worked approximately 55 hours per week, according to the study.
