In an unbiased machine learning analysis of diffusion MRI and genomic data from 272 infants, born at less than 33 weeks gestational age, variability in the PPARG gene was associated with altered cerebral connectivity, suggesting that the PPARG signaling pathway may influence the development of neurocognitive problems following preterm birth and that existing drugs that target PPARG might help in preventing such problems, according to a study.
