The Oscars may be the hottest ticket in LA, but in Anaheim it's Dr. John J. Fortman. Ever wonder how realistic science is in the movies? Or how Hollywood is using chemistry to create more spectacular special effects? At the 217th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, Dr. Fortman will answer these questions and more.
Dr. Fortman will illustrate the chemistry connection in movies where you might not expect it like "The Graduate" and "It's a Wonderful Life." Using live chemical demonstrations he will show how chemistry is used in the more explosive movies, such as "Apollo 13," "Dante's Peak" and "Backdraft".
