Researchers report that, following China's July 2014 deadline for implementing more stringent emissions standards at coal-fired power plants, sulfur dioxide emission concentrations at coal-fired plants declined as measured by Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems on the ground and by independent satellite measures, and the correspondence between these two measures was strongest in regions imposing the least aggressive new standards, according to the authors.
