In the spring of 2026, a new international journal, Advanced Scientific Instruments (ASI), has officially launched its first issue. Published by Science China Press and KeAi, and supervised by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the journal provides a dedicated, high-caliber platform for research across all walks of modern instrumentation.

Scientific instruments have long served as the “eyes” and “hands” of research and technological innovation. Today, interdisciplinary frontiers — where quantum sensing meets biomedical imaging, and artificial intelligence converges with precision engineering — demand ever-higher standards in instrument performance, integration, and reliability. ASI aims to meet this growing need by publishing rigorously peer-reviewed, open-access research that advances scientific understanding and expands the horizons of engineering.

The journal's scope spans the development of scientific instruments; photonics, lasers, and radar; imaging and microscopy; electronics, micro/nano technology, and systems; sensing, measurement, and manipulation; as well as data analysis tools and approaches.

“Through rigorous peer review and expedited publication, ASI is committed to disseminating high-quality research that advances scientific understanding and expands the horizons of engineering,” said Professor Kai Wu, Editor-in-Chief of ASI, from Peking University. “Our mission is to establish ASI as the preeminent hub for pioneering the next generation of scientific tools, fostering global collaboration, and accelerating technological progress.”

The inaugural issue is now available online via the journal’s homepage on ScienceDirect. Readers and researchers are invited to enjoy reading the latest results and viewpoints from the instrumentation community.
