Shanjiang Zhu, Associate Professor, Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, received funding from Virginia Department of Transportation/Virginia Transportation Research Council for a project in which he is developing InfraHub, a smartphone app that helps bicycle and pedestrian facility users report facility issues using their smartphones. An iOS app has been developed in a previous project. This project will develop an Android version to extend its coverage. This project will also include additional outreach efforts through social media and the advocacy groups, at the completion of app development, to encourage more users to use the app and report facility issues. The research team will compile and analyze the findings twice a year and share the findings with VDOT stakeholders.
Zhu received $11,132 from the U.S Department of Transportation for this project. Funding began in April 2021 and will end in late February 2022.
