Video interviews, expert webinars, and in-depth panel discussions unite diverse stakeholders of the R&I ecosystem spanning Europe and beyond to demonstrate how intellectual property (IP) can boost Open Science and how both frameworks can work together to achieve impactful valorisation of knowledge.
The Horizon Europe project IP4OS (Unpacking the Possibilities of Intellectual Properties for Open Science) has released a comprehensive suite of campaign materials designed to challenge a long-standing misconception in research: that IP and Open Science sit at odds with one another.
Coordinated by the IP4OS consortium, the Role Model Campaign brings together a diverse group of researchers, educators, Open Science professionals, data stewards, librarians, legal and knowledge transfer experts and innovators who share firsthand experience of navigating IP and Open Science together - often finding that the two compound: each strengthening the reach and impact of the other.
To make this experience visible and transferable, the campaign is structured around three complementary video formats - each designed to meet different learning needs and professional contexts:
All video content is freely available on the IP4OS YouTube channel and website , organised into dedicated playlists by category.
Each release has been supported by a coordinated dissemination strategy, including dedicated news items on the IP4OS website and targeted social media posts on LinkedIn and Bluesky .
As part of the campaign, a series of posters was created featuring short reflections drawn from different role models' real working experience meant to be displayed at in-person events.

IP4OS (Unpacking the Possibilities of Intellectual Properties for Open Science) is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (Grant Agreement No. 101188026) running from January 2025 to December 2026. Coordinated by Julia Priess-Buchheit at Kiel University (CAU), the project brings together partners across Europe to explore how IP and Open Science can work synergistically to maximise the societal, scientific, environmental, and economic benefits of research.
