In the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities, LMU ranks among the world’s top 50 research-intensive universities.
In the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2025, published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) has held its position as the country’s leading university. LMU advanced one place since last year and now ranks 42nd in the world. The university placed fourth within the EU.
The heavily research-focused ranking is based primarily on the analysis of scientific publications and citations in the Web of Science, as well as the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals held by each institution.
