The Lancet begins its coverage of WHO's Director-General elections by publishing profiles of each of the recently named candidates in this week's World Report.

The 13 candidates nominated for the most prominent position in global health--Director-General of WHO--were finally revealed last week, just over 3 months after the tragic and unexpected death of the previous WHO Director-General, Lee Jong-wook.

The Lancet comments: "The Lancet will be closely following the campaign as it develops. This week, we publish short profiles of each of the candidates, summarising their relevant experience and achievements. As the election process continues, we hope to publish more detailed statements from the candidates on our website, discussing their priorities for WHO and what changes they think are needed to enable the organisation to function effectively and successfully. We hope you will join the debate."
