Blake Silver, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Director, Data Analytics and Assessment, Honors College, is interviewing 80 college students to find out how economic uncertainty shapes the way they navigate higher education.

By analyzing these in-depth interviews, he will explore how students manage economic uncertainty in daily college life and how they make decisions about the future. Additionally, he plans to use an intersectional lens to examine how race, class, and gender come together to shape experiences with and resources for managing uncertainty.

This study is important because, while previous research has documented the ways economic uncertainty is reflected in institutions of higher education, little is known about how individuals experience this type of uncertainty within colleges and universities.

Silver received $7,840 from the American Sociological Association for this project. Funding began in November 2020 and will end in late March 2022.
