Despite progress, an estimated 1.6 billion people remain at risk of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), with 38 million newborns worldwide still unprotected. Iodized salt can prevent IDD, which affects up to 20-25% of children in developing countries and can cause IQ loss and brain damage.
