Nanoclusters of 2-8 silver atoms may be basis for new optical storage technique

Researchers at Georgia Institute of Technology have demonstrated binary optical storage using nanoclusters of 2-8 silver atoms. The clusters can fluoresce when exposed to blue light, allowing for nondestructive reading with green light. This technique has the potential for high-density storage and parallel reading.
