Washington, DC -- November 14, 1997 -- The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) will bring together experts in law, technology, and science to examine the technical, legal, ethical and social, and commercial dimensions of anonymous Internet communications. Among the questions being considered are:

The participants will analyze anonymous online and offline communications in journalism, whistleblowing, human rights, and more, and develop recommendations for guidelines in the use of anonymity. Featured speakers include Gary Marx, Fellow, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars; Michael Froomkin, University of Miami Law School; Peter Wayner, Byte Magazine; and Donna Hoffman, Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.
