Researchers propose a model that explains empirical data on how temperature and size affect metabolic demand for oxygen in fishes; the model suggests that in warm waters, oxygen availability may constrain the active metabolism of fishes, particularly in large fishes, given that the reduction in aerobic capacity increases with body size, according to the authors.
