Cristiana Stan, Professor and Associate Chair, Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences (AOES), is set to receive funding for a joint appointment at Argonne National Laboratory.
Stan will conduct an evaluation of subseasonal to seasonal (S2S) prediction skill of simulations generated by Argonne National Laboratory using foundational models. The focus of the evaluation will be on Madden-Julien Oscillation (MJO) and its teleconnections to extra-tropics.
MJO is a phenomenon characterized by a planetary-scale circulation coupled with convection propagating eastward along the equator. It is the most dominant intraseasonal variability in the tropics, and its different phases influence global weather and climate.
This work will contribute to making weather and climate applications faster and more accurate.
Stan will also contribute to manuscript preparation for submission to publication.
Stan will receive $11,613 from Argonne National Laboratory on a subaward from the U.S. Department of Energy for this award. Funding will begin in late May 2024 and will end in late Aug. 2024.
