Joan Kang Shin, Professor, Education, and Associate Dean for Faculty Success, College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), received funding for: “AY26-27 TEYL Course Delivery.”
This funding will support the Teaching English to Young Learners curriculum and delivery to students.
Shin received $100,000 from Family Health International on a subaward from the U.S. Department of State for this project. Funding began in Aug. 2026 and will end in late Sept. 2027.
Dr. Joan Shin and Dr. Woomee Kim are leading this GOTEC project to offer 5 course sections of an online professional development course called Teaching English to Young Learners, which builds a community of practice among English language teachers around the world focused on teaching children. This program will reach approximately 125 teachers this year.
Through this grant project, CEHD faculty conduct research through Mason’s Global Online Teacher Education Center (GOTEC), whose mission is “to advance research and pedagogy in online teacher education and professional development around the world that is inclusive, accessible, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining.”
