Eric Osterweil, Assistant Professor, Computer Science, received funding for the project: "Enabling Invisible Security and Privacy for Resilient Human-Centric Cybersecurity Systems."

For this project, Osterweil and Co-Principal Investigator Matt Canham, Affiliated Faculty in the Human Factors and Cognition Program in Mason's Psychology department, will pilot user tools for enabling usable cryptographic protections for email transactions.

This live pilot will serve as an evaluation apparatus and produce a user-study for determining how cryptography can, and should, be used when deployed at scale for humans (expert and non-expert).

This work will establish a foundation for future efforts to develop a human-usable adaptive encryption platform and cybersecurity threat intelligence information sharing, which Osterweil and his collaborators call the Enhanced Traffic-Light Protocol (ETLP).

Osterweil received $40,000 from the Virginia Innovation Partnership Authority for this work. Funding began in January 2022 and will end in late December 2022.
