Using phylogenetic analysis of approximately 15,000 tropical tree taxa from more than 400 locations, researchers identify two major tropical forest regions, a combined American-African region and an Indo-Pacific region, in contrast to classical distinctions between old and new world tropical forest regions; the study also highlights a dry region encompassing areas in America, Africa, India, and Madagascar, and a subtropical region that includes parts of America and Asia.
