Hoboken , N.J. -- Kathryn Abel, Director of the Engineering Management Program at Stevens Institute of Technology, was honored with the Merl Baker Award at the 2006 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference and Exposition. The award is named for one of the founding fathers of the academic discipline of engineering management. It is the second highest award from the Engineering Management Division of ASEE and annually honors those that have given exemplary service. Abel recently finished her tenure as president of the Engineering Management Division and in prior years, she was also the program chairman as well as treasurer.

Abel is also a Stevens alumna. She earned her Doctorate in Applied Psychology and Technology Management in 2001, a Master's in Technology management in 1993, and her Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. Her research focuses on knowledge engineering and she is a member of theAmerican Society for Engineering Education, the American Society for Engineering Management, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Epsilon Mu Eta, the Engineering Management Honor Society.
