Researchers conducted genome-wide transcriptome and DNA methylation profiling of the seminal vesicles (SV) of mice during normal development and after neonatal exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES), a synthetic estrogen with developmental effects in the reproductive tract of adult mice, and found that estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), which helps control such developmental effects, mediates SV transcriptome aberrations in adult mice and that DNA methylation changes in ERα knock-out mice were greater than in wild-type mice.
