In April 2020, researchers surveyed 574 local elected officials across the United States and found that most officials favored resettlement of refugees of a range of profiles, but were most supportive of Christian refugees as well as those perceived as potentially strong contributors to the local economy, as indicated by education level and sponsorship by a local business; officials were also more likely to support families and single women than single men, according to the authors.
