Researchers report that pain perception differences among individuals are partly due to amplitude differences in the brain's gamma band oscillations; electrophysiological experiments to examine brain activity in rodents as well as 203 participants revealed that gamma band oscillations are a selective index of pain sensitivity and can reliably predict subjective pain sensitivity of individuals as well as differences in sensitivity among individuals.
