In a study of 500 Jewish-Israelis residing in Israel and 500 Palestinians living in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, most Jewish-Israelis and Palestinians associated peace with the termination of war; however, Jewish-Israelis were more likely to associate peace with friendship and harmonious relationships than with equality and justice, whereas Palestinians exhibited an opposite pattern, suggesting that different lay theories about peace can influence conflict resolution, according to the authors.
