On March 23, 2026, Professor Sergio Bernardini, Secretary of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), visited Ruijin Hospital to participate in a high-level China–Italy laboratory medicine exchange meeting. The event brought together leading experts from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the LabMed Discovery (LMD) editorial team to explore deeper collaboration in research, education, and academic publishing.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed their longstanding partnership and emphasized the role of LMD as a bridge for international academic exchange. Discussions highlighted plans to enhance the journal’s global influence through international editorial collaboration, overseas offices, and high-quality academic content. Professor Sergio reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the journal’s development by organizing international meetings, inviting global experts, and contributing to special issues.
A major focus of the discussion was future research collaboration, particularly in cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence in laboratory medicine. Participants explored opportunities for joint research projects, international funding applications, and collaborative platforms, including online forums and academic workshops. These initiatives aim to promote innovation and translate emerging technologies into clinical practice.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of talent development through student exchange programs. Building on successful previous exchanges, both sides expressed strong interest in continuing and expanding opportunities for young scholars to gain international experience. Overall, the visit marked a significant step in strengthening China–Italy collaboration, with LMD positioned as a key platform for fostering global dialogue and advancing laboratory medicine.
