Kenneth W. Griffin, Professor, Global and Community Health, College of Public Health, received funding for the project: “A Hybrid Program to Prevent Emergent Substance Use Risk among Upper Elementary School Students Using A Positive Youth Development Approach.”
He is evaluating a hybrid substance use prevention intervention, including classroom materials and a suite of interactive e-learning modules to supplement the evidence-based Life Skills Training Elementary School prevention program. New content on vaping prevention and the safe use of prescription medication use is being added to the program content.
Griffin received $139,940 from National Health Promotion Associates (NHPA) on a subaward from the National Institutes of Health for this research. Funding began in June 2026 and will end in late May 2027.
Dr. Griffin is a former employee of NHPA and serves as a consultant to the company.
