Researchers report the development of a mass-spectrometry-based assay for flaviviruses, including Dengue, Zika, West Nile, and Yellow Fever viruses, that can detect the virus within the first 8 days of symptom onset and can also distinguish multiple flaviviruses or multiple strains of a single virus using nonstructural protein 1, which is unique for each strain and virus.
