Bethesda, MD – 7/7/2026 – The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) announced today that its flagship journal, Genetics in Medicine (GIM), maintained a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 6.2 and continues to rank in the first quartile (Q1) of journals in the Genetics category, according to the latest Journal Citation Reports™ from Clarivate.

Maintaining a first-quartile ranking reflects the journal’s continued influence and importance within the rapidly evolving fields of medical genetics and genomics. Genetics in Medicine remains one of the leading peer-reviewed journals publishing clinically relevant research, evidence-based guidance, policy statements, and practice resources that help advance patient care and improve health outcomes.

“We are very pleased that Genetics in Medicine has maintained its Impact Factor this year. There is tremendous competition among biomedical journals, and authors have many choices when deciding where to submit their best work,” said Robert D. Steiner, MD, FACMG, Editor-in-Chief of Genetics in Medicine . “We are grateful that so many researchers continue to choose GIM for publication of their highest-quality research. By publishing in GIM , authors not only contribute to the advancement of medical genetics but also support ACMG and its efforts to improve patient care, education, and advocacy in the field. We also want to extend our sincere thanks to our peer reviewers and editorial board, whose dedication and expertise are essential to maintaining the quality that the scientific community relies on.”

The Journal Impact Factor is one measure of a journal’s influence and is based on the frequency with which its articles are cited in scholarly literature. While no single metric fully captures a journal’s impact, maintaining a strong Impact Factor and first-quartile ranking demonstrates the ongoing relevance, quality, and scientific contribution of the research and guidance published in Genetics in Medicine .

"The continued success of Genetics in Medicine reflects the dedication of the journal's editors, editorial board members, reviewers, authors, and publishing staff," said Melissa Forburger, CAE, SHRM-CP, Interim Chief Executive Officer of ACMG. "Maintaining a first quartile ranking in a highly competitive publishing environment speaks to the quality and relevance of the research, guidance, and clinical resources being published. We are grateful to everyone whose contributions help ensure the journal remains a trusted resource for the medical genetics and genomics community."

Published since 1998, Genetics in Medicine is ACMG’s official peer-reviewed journal and serves as a leading source of clinically relevant research, practice guidelines, policy statements, and educational resources. The journal is supported by an expert editorial board representing all facets of genetic and genomic medicine, including biochemical and molecular genetics, cytogenetics, cancer genetics, cardiogenetics, biomedical informatics, neurogenetics, genetic counseling, reproductive genetics, ethical, legal, and social implications, and other specialty areas.

About the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and ACMG Foundation

Founded in 1991, the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) is a prominent authority in the field of medical genetics and genomics and the only nationally recognized medical professional organization solely dedicated to improving health through the practice of medical genetics and genomics. The only medical specialty society in the US that represents the full spectrum of medical genetics disciplines in a single organization, the ACMG provides education, resources and a voice for more than 2,500 clinical and laboratory geneticists, genetic counselors, and other healthcare professionals. ACMG’s mission is to improve health through the clinical and laboratory practice of medical genetics as well as through advocacy, education and clinical research, and to guide the safe and effective integration of genetics and genomics into all of medicine and healthcare, resulting in improved personal and public health.

Genetics in Medicine and Genetics in Medicine Open , a gold open access journal, are the official ACMG journals. ACMG’s website, acmg.net , offers resources including policy statements, practice guidelines, and educational programs. The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine works to advance ACMG educational and public health programs through philanthropic gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
