NEW ORLEANS, LA (November 15, 2010) � Following the Plenary Session of the 2010 International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress (PSWC) in association with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting and Exposition, President Danny D. Shen, Ph.D. presented the following ground-breaking researchers with awards commemorating their contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences:

AAPS Presidential Citation
Mario L. Rocci, Jr., Ph.D., is an AAPS Past-President. He is recognized for his valuable contributions as the Chair of the FIP PSWC in association with the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition. The meeting has forged strong international relations in the exchange of knowledge, development of partnerships, and the nurturing of lifelong networking.

Dr. Rainer Hoffman Product through Science Award -- Sponsored by Lohmann Therapie-Systeme AG
Hans E. Junginger, Ph.D., is Visiting Professor at the Naresuan University, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Thailand. He started his research on the gel-structures of ointments and creams before developing a generally applicable four-phase system for oil-in-water creams. With this knowledge he has developed around 100 stable cosmetic products. Dr. Junginger is an AAPS Fellow.

New Investigator Grant in Pharmaceutics and the Pharmaceutical Technologies -- Sponsored by Pfizer Global Research and Development
Jerry Heng, Ph.D., currently heads the Surfaces and Particle Engineering Lab at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, U.K. His research interest is in the broad area of material characterization and particle engineering, specifically in crystal engineering and surface characterization of solid-state crystalline materials.

AAPS Community Service Award -- Sponsored by The University of Colorado Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Patrick P. DeLuca, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky, a Past-President of AAPS, and an AAPS Fellow. He has been instrumental in the founding and running of Faith Pharmacy of Lexington, Ky., an organization that helps people who don�t have prescription drug coverage. Dr. DeLuca�s efforts at securing donations, managing the operations of the pharmacy, and recruiting volunteers have been critical to the success of this community resource for over 11 years.
