The University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) High West Development has been awarded the Gold Award in the Construction (Building) category and the Silver Award in the Planning & Development category at the 2026 Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) Awards Ceremony on 13 August.
Led by the University and supported by the HKSAR Government’s Hostel Development Fund, the project was completed in stages in August 2026, with phased occupancy to follow. Providing over 1,200 student hostel places and staff residential units, it addresses on-campus accommodation demands, attracts top global talent, and supports the Government’s “Study in Hong Kong” brand.
Innovative Construction Driving Education Hub Development
Under the theme "Surveying Innovative Solutions," the 2026 HKIS Awards recognise outstanding achievements in innovation and excellence within the surveying profession. Securing these dual accolades underscores HKU’s leadership in construction technology, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, innovation, and sustainable development.

We thank the judging panel and all project partners for jointly advancing the application of new construction technologies, enabling HKU to continue leading in innovation, efficiency and sustainability, and together contributing to the development of Hong Kong as an international education hub.”
The High West project extends beyond providing accommodation as Hong Kong’s first large-scale pilot private residential project to adopt Advanced Hybrid Modular Integrated Construction (Advanced Hybrid MiC). Comprising four high-rise towers and supporting facilities, over 81% of the floor area was constructed using MiC technology, incorporating a total of 1,952 modules. The HKU team has achieved breakthroughs in research, quality management, logistics optimisation and full life-cycle management, driving upgrades in efficiency and quality across the construction industry.
Breaking New Ground in Construction and Advancing Sustainability
The project was delivered through collaboration among leading organisations including Andrew Lee King Fun & Associates Architects Limited, Rider Levett Bucknall Limited and Chevalier-Great Spirit Joint Venture.
The project further incorporates smart city solutions, including smart traffic analysis, blockchain-based electronic production certificates and smart home automation systems. Real-time data is used to simulate MiC module deliveries, ensuring materials arrive on time and safely. In recognition of its sustainable environmental design, the project received the highest Provisional Platinum rating under BEAM Plus New Buildings in 2022.
