Since 2017, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) has annually organized the Global Engineering Frontiers strategic consulting program to assess major trends in engineering science and technology, identify emerging frontiers, and guide the development of engineering-driven industries. The program is supported by CAE’s nine disciplinary divisions and the Engineering Journal series.
Within the field of energy and mining engineering, the initiative is conducted in collaboration with the journal ENGINEERING Energy . Each year, the process consists of three key stages: data preparation, data analysis combined with expert nomination of frontier topics, and expert review and evaluation. Through this rigorous approach, 12 engineering research frontiers and 12 engineering development frontiers are selected. Among these, four research frontiers and four development frontiers are highlighted for in-depth interpretation. Further information on previous editions and related reports is available at: https://www.engineering.org.cn/fronts/CN
At present, the project team has generated a candidate list of engineering frontiers in this domain through a combination of data mining and expert nominations. In recognition of your expertise in energy and mining engineering, we sincerely invite you to participate in a survey to help evaluate and refine these frontier topics, contributing your knowledge and insights to this global initiative.
Participants are invited to select up to three frontier topics within a single disciplinary area, based on their own research specialization. Respondents are encouraged to focus on one discipline only. Suggestions for revising the names or descriptions of frontier topics may be provided in the comments section of the survey.
The deadline for participation is July 15, 2026 .
