Researchers report the development of an ionic liquid-based oral insulin formulation that remains stable for prolonged periods at room temperature and under refrigeration; administration of low insulin doses to rats significantly decreased blood glucose levels for up to 12 hours, and oral delivery of insulin doses resulted in up to 45% decrease in blood glucose levels in rats, offering a potential alternative to injectable insulin deliveries for diabetic patients.
