Researchers report that two drugs typically used to treat erectile dysfunction, tadalafil and vardenafil, can cause bone mass gain in mice, both through the enhancement of bone formation and prevention of bone resorption; the drugs act to inhibit the enzyme PDE5A, which is also expressed in human bone cells, according to the authors.
