Researchers report the design of a chamber for studying the airborne transmission of influenza virus that could separate airborne virus-laden particles by size; using the chamber, the authors found that transmission of influenza among ferrets occurred via airborne particles ranging in size from 15 μm to 1.5 μm, and that onward transmission was most efficient before fever onset and continued for 5 days after infection.
