Based on existing paleoclimate datasets, researchers report that the sea and air temperature difference between Greenland and coastal Nova Scotia was correlated with changes in precipitation and forest composition in the northeastern United States, estimated from fossil pollen and sedimentary records of water level in New England lakes, going back at least 8,000 years; the findings suggest rapid and predictable ecological changes in response to a continuously changing climate.
