In an attempt to develop a classification of human lung tumors that might help to predict outcome, Hongye Liu and colleagues from the Children's Hospital Boston compared gene expression patterns in patients with lung cancer with those seen during mouse lungs during development. They show that the human tumors that had a gene expression pattern most similar to that seen in early mouse lung development had a poorer outcome.
