The American Liver Foundation's (ALF) Greater Los Angeles Chapter will honor world-renowned physician and researcher John M. Vierling, M.D., F.A.C.P., and researcher Andrew J. Conrad, Ph.D, at the foundation's First Annual Gala Recognition Dinner "Celebrating Achievement," on Friday, Feb. 11, at the Beverly Hills Hotel's Crystal Ballroom.

Larry King, host of CNN's "Larry King Live," will be a special guest presenter, and Jim Moret, prominent CNN news anchor, will emcee the recognition dinner, which begins with a reception and auction at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 8 p.m.

Dr. Vierling is the director of the Division of Hepatology and medical director of Liver Transplantation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and professor of medicine at UCLA. His preeminent research in the areas of autoimmune and alloimmune liver diseases and Hepatitis B and Heptatitis C infections has led to significant advances in our understanding of these diseases. He has also served as chairman of the Board of the American Liver Foundation since 1994, leading it to unprecedented growth and dramatic increase in ALF resources to serve both the lay and medical communities throughout the United States.

Dr. Conrad, chief scientific officer and co-founder of the National Genetics Institute in Los Angeles, has had significant impact on the diagnosis and management of chronic viral infections throughout the world. The National Genetics Institute is one of the premier testing laboratories in the world.

The ALF is a national voluntary health organization dedicated to preventing, treating and curing hepatitis and other liver and gallbladder diseases through research and education.
