Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Enas Belal Abdellatif as the winner of the 2024 IADR Newell Johnson Travel Award. Abdellatif, from Alexandria University, Egypt, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102 nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53 rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48 th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA.

Abdellatif is a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, Egypt. She obtained her MSc degree in Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health in 2024 from Alexandria University, Egypt and has been doing research in rural areas for the past four years.

Her research interests are early childhood caries, oral epidemiology, behavioral change interventions, and biostatistics. Her long-term goals are to help prevent oral diseases, empower those from disadvantaged communities, and minimize oral health inequalities, especially in low- and middle- income countries.

Named after the late Newell W. Johnson, this award was established to assist new investigators residing in low- to upper middle-income countries to attend the IADR General Session & Exhibition. IADR uses the annual World Bank classification of countries by income to determine which countries are low and middle income. The IADR Newell W. Johnson Travel Award is designed to encourage new investigators to undertake research and to support their attendance at the IADR General Session & Exhibition for presentation of research in any of the IADR Scientific Group & Network research areas.
