Lee Becker, director of the Cox Center and Grady College professor, has compiled the often-cited report since 1987. "The Annual Survey of Journalism and Mass Communication is the industries' barometer for conditions including employment, salaries, job satisfaction and more," Becker said. "It offers a tremendous amount of insight and information into the changing face of journalism and mass communication employment."
In addition to the formal presentation of the survey at the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication conference in Miami, the findings are available at the Grady College Web site at www.grady.uga.edu. Interested parties will find the graduate survey report, a supplement report on attitudes toward unions, a doctoral enrollment survey report as well as a report on minority journalism education.
Nearly 2,900 graduate surveys were returned from degree recipients of 103 schools drawn to represent the 458 journalism and mass communication programs in the United States. The surveyed students represent the estimated 38,400 bachelor's degree recipients and 3,240 master's degree recipients nationwide for the 2000-2001 academic year.
