In a randomized survey experiment involving 6,134 individuals from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico about immigration detention and nonjudicial removals in the United States, a study found that although heightened awareness of such immigration policies did not influence individuals' intentions to migrate to the United States, heightened awareness of immigration detention fostered beliefs that the US immigration system lacks procedural and outcome fairness, according to the author.
