Christopherson, a teacher of 18 years, works in a small rural school district and is the only physical sciences teacher at Chosen Valley High School. In addition to chemistry, she teaches physics, physical science and environmental science.

Christopherson often includes her students in presentations to other science teachers at workshops. The students frequently conduct demonstrations.

Christopherson uses technology to involve her students, using digital-imaging-enhanced lab exercises in her teaching. She says it is her goal to prepare students "to function successfully in a global, wired community."

Having received her B.S. in education from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., Christopherson also earned a M.S. in chemistry from Kansas State University in Manhattan. She believes strongly in the importance of a good education and loves science and students. The American Chemical Society's High School Chemistry Teaching Award recognizes educators who challenge and inspire their students, provide high quality instruction and participate in extracurricular activities that stimulate young people's interest in chemistry.
