An upcoming international online forum will bring together leading researchers to explore how engineered biochar can advance carbon capture and sustainable resource recovery, addressing urgent global climate and environmental challenges.

The 23rd session of the International Forum will be held on April 24, 2026, featuring a keynote presentation by Prof. Wan Azlina Wan Abdul Karim Ghani from Universiti Putra Malaysia. The event will be hosted by Dr. Lim Jun Wei of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and organized by the Biochar Editorial Office and Carbon Research Editorial Office.

The forum will focus on the theme “Engineered Biochar for Carbon Capture and Resource Recovery: Bridging Science, Sustainability, and Industrial Application.” It will highlight recent advances in biochar design, including structural engineering, surface chemistry optimization, and hybridization with nanomaterials to improve carbon dioxide adsorption and energy performance.

“Engineered biochar represents a powerful pathway to transform waste biomass into high value carbon materials that support both environmental protection and industrial innovation,” said Prof. Wan Azlina. “By integrating science with scalable technologies, we can accelerate the transition toward a low carbon and circular economy.”

The presentation will also showcase case studies on converting agricultural and industrial residues into functional carbon materials for carbon capture, energy storage, and pollutant removal. In addition, the discussion will address techno economic considerations in scaling up biochar technologies, with insights from ongoing research initiatives in Malaysia.

The forum is open to researchers, industry professionals, and the public worldwide.
